The Role

Christ the King College is a joint Church of England and Catholic College on the Isle of Wight, providing a Christian education underpinned by Gospel values and reflecting both Church of England and Catholic traditions. It operates under the auspices of both the Church of England and Catholic Dioceses of Portsmouth. 


The school has over 1000 students on roll, including a Sixth Form College of about 200 students. It is a well-established comprehensive school, which is well supported by parents and highly respected in the community.

We are looking for a Premises/Facilities Assistant to become an integral member of the Premises department. The Premises Team at Christ the King College comprises of our Premises, Facilities and Technical Support Manager, assisted by a team of Caretakers and Breaktime Supervisors.


This role is based on 30 hours per week (working hours 11.30am to 6.00pm Mon - Fri), Term Time plus 15 days to be worked during school holidays, but it also requires some flexibility to enable cover for team colleagues if necessary and to support lettings and community events out of school hours or on weekends on occasions. The postholder will support the Premises Team to ensure that the whole site, including the premises, the furniture and fittings, and the grounds are maintained to a high standard.


The main responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out janitor duties and checks
  • Preparing the school site for lettings, liaising with hirers and providing assistance as required in letting agreements
  • Carrying out emergency cleaning or any other additional cleaning duties as required
  • Carrying out routine grounds/site maintenance such as lawn mowing, weed removal, sweeping up paths, etc
  • Undertaking general porterage duties to include moving furniture and equipment, setting-up for school events and lettings


All duties must be carried out to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act, Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments, COSHH Regulations, and other legal and nationally agreed regulations or codes of practice that are relevant.
